Therapy implies healing and psychotherapy means healing of the mind.  I believe that psychotherapy should offer a warm, safe, and non-judgmental environment to arrive at a greater understanding of one’s self as well as one’s relationships with others.  This understanding will then allow an individual to work towards developing greater self-compassion and acceptance, as well as to identify areas for change. I use a collaborative approach to tailor treatment to your needs.

One of the biggest factors to consider in deciding whether to go forward with psychotherapy often has less to do with the psychotherapy approach itself and more to do with the comfort level and trust that you develop in working with a particular therapist.  I have a passion for helping others and empowering people to overcome life challenges and improve their overall quality of life.  My clinical approach draws from several theoretical orientations including cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic perspectives.  My clinical specialties include preparation for gastric bypass surgery, obesity and diabetes.

I earned my PhD in clinical psychology at the Ferkauf School of Psychology, Yeshiva University/Einstein College of Medicine and my BA at Barnard College, Columbia University.  I have trained in both inpatient and outpatient settings.  Before starting my private practice in Maryland, I had a successful private practice at Partners in Healing of Minneapolis, MN where I often was referred patients from the Mayo Clinic.

Hypnosis is a useful therapeutic technique that I use when appropriate.  What is hypnosis?  Hypnosis is a state of focused attention and concentration.  When our minds are concentrated and focused we are able to use our minds powerfully and use more of its potential.  Hypnosis encourages using imagination and mental imagery to bring about things we want.  Hypnosis is a powerful, effective therapeutic technique for a wide range of conditions, including pain, anxiety and mood disorders.  Hypnosis can also help people change habits, such as quitting smoking.  Adapted from ASCH website.  For more information see www.asch.org.
